Chengdu has two major airports, and choosing the correct pickup is not a small detail. Tianfu sits far southeast of the city while Shuangliu is much closer to many central districts. The flight number, airport code and first hotel must agree before a chauffeur is dispatched.
Confirm the difficult part first. Tickets, routes and vehicles should remove uncertainty from the journey, not add another layer to manage.
Begin with TFU and CTU, not “Chengdu airport”
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport uses code TFU. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport uses CTU. Both handle passenger flights, and several airlines operate at both airports. An itinerary that simply says Chengdu can send the vehicle to the wrong side of a very large city. Share the operating airline, flight number, local date, airport code and terminal exactly as shown on the latest ticket. Codes matter even more when an airline changes the schedule after booking.
The driver should receive the same live itinerary as the passenger. If a travel agent reissues the flight, forward the new document instead of assuming that the old pickup will update automatically.
Tianfu is the main international gateway
Sichuan’s official 2023 transfer plan moved international passenger flights from Shuangliu to Tianfu, establishing TFU as the principal international gateway. Current route allocations can still change by season, so check the operating ticket. Tianfu is a large modern airport outside central Chengdu. A private transfer is valuable after a long flight because it connects immigration, luggage and the final hotel without another change, but it needs honest road time. Do not attach an immediate panda visit or fixed show to an uncertain international arrival.
Shuangliu can be practical for domestic business routes
Shuangliu remains active and can be convenient for selected domestic flights, especially when the airline schedule and central Chengdu address align. It sits closer to many established hotel and business districts. The shorter map distance does not mean every traveler should force a CTU itinerary. A reliable nonstop to TFU is usually better than an awkward domestic connection chosen only to land closer. Compare total travel time, baggage transfer risk and the next commitment.
Treat a TFU to CTU connection as an interairport transfer
A passenger changing airports must collect luggage when required, exit the first airport, cross the city region and complete check in at the second. Metro and airport bus links exist, but large cases, children or a fragile schedule can make a private vehicle more suitable. Send both complete flight records before purchasing the connection. We work backward from the second airline’s check in deadline and add road and disruption margin. If the timing is unsafe, the correct recommendation is a different flight or an overnight stay.
Let the first hotel and next journey shape the transfer
A central hotel around Tianfu Square, Taikoo Li or another city district creates one route. A resort, panda base, western Sichuan departure or Jiuzhaigou rail connection creates another. Share the hotel’s Chinese address and the next morning’s fixed plan. Travelers continuing by high speed rail also need the exact station, because Chengdu East, Chengdu South and other stations are not interchangeable. One chauffeur plan can connect airport, hotel and the correct departure terminal without forcing the guest to solve the geography after landing.
Confirm flight monitoring, luggage and meeting rules
The written transfer should state TFU or CTU, flight, date, passenger name, vehicle, luggage and waiting terms. The chauffeur may remain in a permitted parking area until the traveler is close to the meeting point. Keep one operations contact active after landing, and send a short message after baggage collection. For families, request child seats in advance. For business groups, count samples and equipment as luggage. The correct airport is the first decision; the correct vehicle is the second.
