PVG and SHA serve different parts of the journey
Shanghai Pudong International Airport, known as PVG, handles a large share of the city’s international flying. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, known as SHA, is closer to Hongqiao Railway Station and many western central districts. The better airport depends on the available flight, hotel and next city.
Never send a driver request that says only Shanghai airport. Confirm the three letter code, terminal, airline and full flight number. A chauffeur positioned at the wrong airport cannot recover the arrival quickly.
When Pudong is the practical choice
PVG is often necessary for an international arrival or long haul departure. It is located farther from many central hotels, so road time and the airport arrival buffer need to be generous. The exact journey changes with the district, weekday, weather and traffic.
Send the flight number before takeoff. Operations can follow schedule changes and adjust the chauffeur within the confirmed waiting terms. International arrival time includes immigration, baggage and customs, not only the landing time shown on a flight application.
When Hongqiao can save time
SHA can be convenient for domestic flights and selected regional services, especially when the traveler stays near Hongqiao, Jing’an or western Shanghai. It is also beside the main Hongqiao rail hub, which supports journeys continuing by high speed train.
Hongqiao still has different terminals and controlled pickup areas. Confirm whether the arrival is a flight or train because the meeting point, signs and walking route are different.
Connecting between PVG and SHA
An airport transfer across Shanghai should be treated as a separate journey, not a short terminal connection. Allow for baggage, road traffic, check in deadlines and the possibility of delay. A private car offers door to door continuity but cannot guarantee the road.
Do not book a tight self connection simply because the map shows both airports in the same city. Ask the airlines whether baggage must be collected and rechecked, and follow their minimum connection guidance.
Vehicle choice for the airport
A sedan works for one or two passengers with normal luggage. An executive MPV suits families, three to five adults or travelers who want easier entry. A van is often necessary for delegations, sports equipment, exhibition materials or many large cases.
Count every bag honestly. A luxury sedan is not a premium experience when cases occupy the front seat. Child seats and mobility support must be requested before dispatch.
Meet assistance and chauffeur handoff
Selected airport assistance can be coordinated for arrivals or departures. The available meeting point and service level depend on the airport, terminal, flight and passenger eligibility. No private provider controls immigration, customs or security.
